Cycle Two

Cycle two started by being promised a different procedure from cycle one; a natural modified cycle as opposed to a mild stimulation. This is when no drugs are used to stimulate the follicles, so only one egg would be retrieved or harvested at the end of the week. Unfortunately, this was not made clear to me, and I had believed that this cycle would run similarly to the previous one. On day five of my cycle (my second scan and the day I was supposed to start the medication) I was told only one egg would be gathered from this cycle, and the natural cycle was explained to me fully. I asked how this would affect my NHS funding (as I had been funded for one egg collection, one fresh and two frozen transfers – which I wanted to make the most of, particularly after losing so much money on the previous round of treatment). I was told that it was very unlikely that three eggs would be harvested this cycle so was advised to abandon this cycle of treatment, and start again next cycle. Very reluctantly, I agreed. Another very difficult decision to make, but nonetheless, my husband and I moved now towards our next cycle of treatment.
